2nd Workshop on “5G – Putting Intelligence to the Network Edge” (5G-PINE 2017)
Athens, Greece, August 25-26, 2017
Also this year SESAME organized the 5G-PINE workshop (Workshop on 5G – Putting Intelligence to the Network Edge). Its second edition took place at the end of August in Athens during the 18th EANN Engineering Applications of Neural Networks Conference. The 2nd 5G-PINE Workshop has been established to disseminate knowledge obtained from actual EU projects as well as from any other action of EU-funded research, in the wider thematic area of “5G Innovative Activities – Putting Intelligence to the Network Edge” and with the aim of focusing on Artifical Intelligence (AI) in modern 5G telecommunications infrastructures.During the workshop, seven papers were presented and they have been published in Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on Engineering Applications of Neural Networks, EANN 2017. The Proceedings were published in the book "Engineering Applications of Neural Networks. EANN 2017" (Boracchi G., Iliadis L., Jayne C., Likas A. editors) in the Communications in Computer and Information Science series, vol 744 (ISBN 978-3-319-65171-2).
SESAME at the 3rd Meeting of the COCOM Working Group (WG)
Brussels, Belgium, on November 30, 2017
SESAME has joined after direct invitation coming from the European Commission and the Communications Committee (COCOM) the 3rd Meeting of the COCOM Working Group (WG) on Exchange of Best Practice regarding National Broadband Plans to reflect the new gigabit objectives and national 5G "path-to-deployment" (COCOM WG 5G), that took place in Brussels, Belgium, on November 30, 2017. SESAME has been represented by Dr Ioannis Chochliouros from OTE (project coordinator), who has presented the main actual progress and findings of the project and has particularly focused upon relevant business and regulatory aspects, potentially affecting small cells deployment and effective use in the European telecommunications market.
Following to the SESAME presentation the discussion with the COCOM experts, representatives of EU member states, was quite interactive and fully productive, offering the possibility to assess a great range of experiences and “lessons learnt” from SESAME original works.

SESAME at the Connected Stadium Summit - 2017
Amsterdam, the Netherlands, November 07-08, 2017
SESAME has joined the “Connected Stadium Summit -2017” that has been held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on November 07-08, 2017, via a dedicated Session organised by INCITES Consulting SARL (represented by Dr Ioannis Neokosmidis) and supported by OTE (represented by Dr Ioannis Chochliouros, project coordinator). The related presentation was about “How to monetize a 5G Small Cells network using the SESAME network infrastructure. The case of connected stadiums”. The Connected Stadium Summit provides a uniquely focused and realistic view on how to ensure ICT investments deliver. It is an opportunity to find inspiration and business partners around best practice ICT strategies, how to lure fans away from home big-screen TVs, boost revenues and “meet”/“exceed” expectations across the board with the latest technologies.
In this context, SESAME had the opportunity to provide information about its recent progress and related findings as well as to exchange information with experts about forthcoming activities. Potential business- and technical-related issues of interest have been identified and discussed.

FITCE Workshop: “Advanced technologies, optical, 5G, satellite and their role in future developments”
Thessaloniki, Greece, on December 15, 2017
OTE has joined the FITCE Workshop (“Advanced technologies, optical, 5G, satellite and their role in future developments”) that has been held in Thessaloniki, Greece, on December 15, 2017. The event, organized in collaboration with 5G H2020 projects, provided a comprehensive vision of the emerging trends towards the upcoming 5G networks, optical and satellite backhauls, and advanced services. The workshop took into account also the vertical perspectives and presented the current activities from major companies of the ICT sector.
In the scope of his participation, OTE has presented one SESAME-related presentation and one 5G ESSENCE-related presentation, both focusing on the usage of small cells as real “enablers” of the 5G modern networking. The workshop was a networking and dissemination event, with a strong presence of industry, and offered the opportunity for academics and industrial people to meet and exchange ideas and information.
